FRU The Roof
8 pm
Join The Fircones, Emma Darlow and Jasper Gold for a night of gypsy folk and jazz to raise funds for FRU (the Free Representation Unit).
FRU has been providing representation in social security and employment tribunals since 1972, helping people who are not eligible for legal aid and cannot afford lawyers. FRU trains and supervises representatives and helps find pro bono representation from law students and established legal professionals.
The Fircones are Gary Lilburn, Carl Prekopp, Gerard McDermott and Emma Darlow — a band made up of actors who met while on the National tour of Calendar Girls, and Emma Darlow, who joined in 2011. The original line up included the late, great Brigit Forsyth. With guitar, percussion, mandolin and violin, expect a high-energy blend of foot-stomping rhythms and tight harmonies. Sounds a bit like Kurt Vile meets a trad folk session.
Emma Darlow is a singer-songwriter whose music on piano and guitar is lyrical, moody and infectious. Expect finger-picking and unexpected chord patterns (and a few special guests). Sounds a bit like Joni Mitchell meets Tori Amos.
Jasper Gold is a singer whose repertoire spans the Bach Choir and contemporary a cappella. Jasper will be singing piano covers of some underappreciated modern classics.
